Hi, how are you doing? Have you been busy lately? Well I know those busy schedules when you get absolutely no time to take proper care of yourself. I have recently been through a similar phase while shifting from India to my native island Mauritius.
Lately, despite noticing that my body needs care , I was procrastinating about my self-care routine because I thought it would be time consuming.
For me self-care helps me to refuel, recharge and be the best version of myself.
After all we all deserve some love and care.
I know you might be thinking it’s impossible for you to find time for it; but guess what? You can take care of yourself even when you are super busy. Each small moment you spend on self care makes a difference. I find those moments in my everyday routine no matter how busy my day gets and it has made a huge difference.
After being without my self-care routines for around two weeks, I started slacking and feeling low the whole day, my energy levels went down and I was drained. My mood swings were more frequent and I was feeling more irritated for no apparent reason.
After noticing these changes, I sat down to find out the reason for them and I then realised I didn’t take proper care of my body and mind for past two weeks.
I then came up with a list which I am going to share with you now. It has things which I love to do every now and then. Maybe you won’t start feeling amazing as you do them for the first time, but try to incorporate them in your life. They are all very simple and quick. You will surely see a difference once you do them repeatedly for two weeks. You will start to feel good about yourself and in return you body and mind will love you back.
Take 5 deep breaths. It takes less than a minute.
Correct your posture.
Moisturize your hands and feet. May be even press them for a massage like feel.
Close your eyes for a minute and do nothing. Rub your hands and palm your eyes before opening them.
Compliment yourself. Just do it. And value it like you got it from someone else.
Cuddle with a pet. Or may be a human too, haha.
Drink a glass of water, and tell yourself that it is nourishing your body. Ever been grateful for just a glass of water? Try it, it feels different.
Splash cold water on your face.
Massage your ears gently using your index finger and thumb. It feels so good.
Apply lip balm.
Stretch. (arms, wrists, ankles anything which feels good.)
Try neck-rotation. (clock-wise and anti-clock wise, 5 rounds each side)
Do the legs-up-the-wall pose for 2-5 minutes while scrolling through your social media.
Sip your favourite hot tea while admiring nature.
Listen to one of your favourite songs. (may be dance to it too.)
Smell some aromatic essential oils.
Meditate for just 2 minutes. It’s better than not doing it.
Call someone and have a laugh-filled talk.
Soak feet in warm salted water for 5 minutes.
Close your eyes and count from 100 to 1. Or do nothing.
Write or think of 5 things you are grateful for right now.
Read a book for 5 minutes a day.
Go out and look at the sky. Watch the beauty of clouds for a minute.
Paint your nails.
Eat some almonds.
Do one-minute chanting. (Try Om chanting or any mantra of your choice)
Make a pout with your lips and loosen up. Repeat 10 times. It relaxes your face muscles.
