Periods are a positive sign that you are growing into a young woman and your body is working correctly. While some women are blessed with an easy period, some go through a really bad phase with pain and discomfort in the body. It generally causes bloating, breast pain, mood swings and can sometimes be very irritating. PMS is most of the time caused due to hormonal fluctuations happening when you are about to get your periods.

  1. Have a good sleep

Getting a good sleep makes you feel much better when u wake up with your periods. It may be difficult to get that nice sound sleep so you can try listening to some soft music and sleep like a princess.

  1. Change your diet

Well, we understand your cravings, but it’s important to eat healthy both through you PMS and you periods. Avoid any kind of junk food- keep those pizzas, burgers, fries for later. Opt for hot water instead of cold water, it can definitely help with the cramps and also drain your uterine lining. You may also opt for infused tea like peppermint which can help with the pains while ginger may help with the cramps. Dark chocolate can also be allowed as they are a rich source of magnesium which regulates serotonin and hence make you happier. Choose magnesium rich snacks and involve them in your diet to uplift your mood.

  1. Say no to unprotected sex

While it’s rare for him to want to enter a pool of blood, it’s not advised to have unprotected sex. There Is a high risk of infection hence it’s better not to indulge into it.

  1. Heat things up

Heating pads are very easily available nowadays; place it over your abdomen area or wherever you feel the pain and cramps. Trust me, it definitely helps!

It might sound odd asking you to drink water when you are feeling bloated, puffy and full. But drinking water will help you eliminate the water building up in your body. So make sure to drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of fluid like water, juice or anything except caffeinated and carbonated drinks to keep you hydrated. If you are on-the-go, make sure to carry a bottle of water with you; to keep you hydrated throughout your busy day.

  1. Avoid caffeine.

Caffeine causes water retention which can leave you feeling bloated and puffy so it’s best to avoid it. Remember caffeine is not just present in tea or coffee but also in sodas, chocolate, energy drinks etc; Substitutes these by herbal tea, iced tea or just plain water. If you are craving chocolate, just grab a small dark chocolate!
