Mother Teresa was the founder of the Order of the Missionaries of Charity, a Roman Catholic congregation of women dedicated to helping the poor. Considered one of the 20th Century's greatest humanitarians, she was canonized as Saint Teresa of Calcutta in 2016.

Timeline

In 1931, Mother Teresa took her initial vows as a Nun.

Between 1931 and 1948, she taught in Calcutta at St Mary's High School.

In 1946, Mother Teresa received a divine message, possibly a sixth sense, after which she strong-willed to dedicate her existence to the betterment of society. In 1948, she started working with the poor. She soon became an Indian citizen and toured to diverse parts of India to uplift the downtrodden.

In 1950, she was granted consent to establish the diocesan congregation, which would work for those, whom she expressed as "the hungry, the naked, the homeless, the crippled, the blind, the lepers and all those people who feel unwanted, unloved, uncared for throughout society, people that have become a burden to the society and are shunned by everyone". The congregation extended far and came to be Between 1931 and 1948 she taught in Calcutta at St. Mary's High School.

In the 1970s, Mother Theresa was internationally famed as humanitarian and advocate for the poor and helpless.

In 1979, Mother Teresa won the Noble Peace Price and India's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna
